10 steps to great looking feet

This method is no longer the best way to correctly match current Slink feet.  Please watch this video tutorial.

**Notice**  If you do use the below method, please be aware that Slink feet have a texture on them that shows the anatomical detail, as well as different starting colours for different skintones, and the RGB pipette method is no longer reliable.  Your feet will always come out too dark.

If you follow these instructions carefully, you will have great looking feet in no time!

Resizing your feet!

The Jolie Pied HUD has a built in resize bar and reset button.  The feet come out of the box at the default middle position.  Simply click above or below the indicator pip to increase or decrease the size of your feet.  When you have the right size, the ankle should have a seamless silhouette between avatar leg and prim foot, and no part of your avatar feet should be sticking out anywhere.

Tinting your feet

1 – Go to Edit – Preferences – Graphics and ensure there is a tick in the custom box of the graphics tab.  Once the custom option is open, you should see down the bottom of the graphics tab the options to see Sun and Moon only, or Nearby Local Lights.

Turn off Nearby Local Lights

Check the Sun and Moon Only Option.  This will stop local lighting from having any effect on the tinting process.

2 – Go to world – Environment Settings, Environment Editor to open the advanced Lighting settings.  Open Advanced Sky and go to the “lighting” tab.

Set your lighting up using the following image as a guideline

JP Windlight setting

- Sun moon position at 0

-East Angle at 0 or 1.

-Scene Gamma between 1 and 2.

3 – Press Ctrl/Shift/D to make your advanced menu available.  If you already have Advanced in your menus, skip this step.

4 – Go to Advanced – UI – Show colour under cursor.

This will make the RGB value of whatever you are pointing at appear on your screen in the following location.

JP Show Colour

5 – Hop on a pose stand while wearing your feet and the OmniHUD.  Make sure it has initialised, or the command won’t work.

6- Hover your pointer over your ankle in an area of the skin texture that is neutral – not painted light or dark.  If you use the shadowed area of the ankle for example, your foot will turn out too dark.

7- Make a note of the RGB value.  It will be something like 230 175 137 0.  Ignore the 4th number, it is not relevant.

8- Type into local chat /13 skin 230,175,137 or whatever you wrote down in the previous step.

Your feet will change colour.  Keep trying this until you get a good colour match.  The absence of local lights means they will not be making your skin look lighter than it is.

  • The Jolie Pied feet have a skin texture that will make the foot appear darker than it would normally with this command.   You will need to finetune your colour and brightness settings
  • Once you have typed in your colour command, the indicator pips on the HUD will move to that exact location on the colour and brightness palettes.
  • Simply finetune your colour and brightness settings from where the pops land.  It’s easy and with this system you should always have perfectly matching feet!

9- Once you have a perfect match, press one of the little colour pipettes (NOT the white or coloured bar next to it) to save your colour.  If you accidentally press the bar, your feet will change to whatever colour is saved there and you will have to retint your feet.

10- Repeat the above steps for all your favourite skins.  You can save them all so you can transfer the tint to all your feet.

There is a good tutorial at WhattheFUGSL which explains the above as well :)

Hi , I love your shoes , but end up never being able to use them. I don’t know why but I can’t manage to get the right numbers. My last try ended up a disaster. I tried 25 different numbers and didn’t work. I know what yo are thinking …. I’m not very smart:) I’m not the most talented person in a computer but i do ok, but skins colors are biting me up 10 – 0. Why the skin makers or the shoe creators don’t provide the RGB with the shoes or the skin? I even try to impute numbers that were provided by other shoe manufacturers and skins, I ended up with blue feet:(

Why won’t my feet show when I wear heels? I get them looking perfect and then they disappear with heels on.

  3. Siddean says:

Hi Katie, they won’t show with heels because they are designed to be barefeet, not to be worn with shoes. They disappear because both feet and shoes share the same attachment point so when you wear shoes, they replace the feet.

Hi Natasha, you didn’t leave me a full name so I have no way to contact you inside SL. If you drop me a notecard in SL I will help you get the right tint.

Many thanks for providing this clear and easy to follow explanation, Siddean. The point regarding The Jolie Pied feet have a skin texture that will make the foot appear darker than it would normally with this command. is important. The brightness always requires some lightening afterwards. However, the hue is spot on using the technique described above.

It would be helpful to be able to get the colour the feet are currently set to. Is this possible? This would make version changes a breeze.

  6. Siddean says:

Hi Dorothy and thanks for your comment! You can get the RGB value that the feet are tinted at by pressing the RGB button on the HUD. It chats the current values to you in local chat. If your HUD doesn’t have an RGB button, check that you have the latest version, and you can pick up a new HUD from the demo box :)

i’ve got a good colormatch on my skin – however the texture of the feet seems far more like real skin than my avi’s skin which is much smoother and glossier.. is there anything that can be done to help with that? all 4 of the “skin textures” seem

I got a new skin and tried to match the feet to this new one. I am able to get the foot itself to be a perfect match, but the toes look entirely different. They look like they have sand on them and are an odd beige color. If i match the toes, the foot is way off and looks strange. Any suggestions?

  13. Siddean says:

Amethyst, this could be because you are seeing a light shining on your toes. I’ll contact you inworld and we can talk about it.

I am having trouble coloring my feet with the UI method. The shoes I bought are really adorable and I would love to wear them but unfortunately I can’t cause I can’t get them to match my skin tone correctly :(

  15. Hi – could some please provide instructions on how to change the settings using the most recent version of Firestorm? Or contact me inworld for help? I have bought a pair of both the platform heels and thongs – I love the look of the shoes – but do need assistance please. Thank you!

  16. Siddean says:

Hi, we have chatted about this inworld :)

  17. Siddean says:

Hi, can you please contact me (Siddean Munro) inworld to chat about this? I can help you.

  18. Thank you, Siddean, for contacting me directly! You were a great help and I appreciate the time you took with me – not many creators would do that! Thanks again, and I love, love the shoes!

  19. London says:

Hi. Just thought I would leave a note here for anyone using Firestorm viewer. If you are having trouble locating show color under cursor, it is in the “develop” tab, “show info” and scroll down to the third from the bottom, “show color under cursor”. Took me a while to find it, so thought others might have trouble as well. Cheers
